Fort Madison Hospital Named Top Workplace
Fort Madison Community Hospital has been awarded a 2016 Top Workplaces honor by the Des Moines Register. This is the fifth straight year that FMCH has received this recognition. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by Workplace Dynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement.  Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including Alignment, Execution and Connection.

“Smaller hospitals can do great works! Fort Madison Community Hospital, and the region’s patients who trust our providers and staff to care for them, has accomplished an exceptional recognition. The award is less important than doing the right things, the right way for every patient, every day. The recognition is a result of our employees responding when they were asked their opinion and given a voice as to how they are treated by our Board, Administration, Medical Staff, Foundation, Auxiliary and each other.

Caring for other team members is a value and a priority at FMCH. Respect is always a choice. Attitudes and our standards of behavior are important to create and sustain a culture that we, and the patients we serve, want to be part of. It is also very contagious. So, for the fifth time, in five Years, FMCH has been awarded recognition by a state wide survey of the Des Moines Register, as a “TOP 150 WORKPLACE IN IOWA”.  We appreciate the choice and the effort of all of our co-workers to find a way to get along well. We also thank our employees for taking the time to complete the survey honestly to allow consideration of our organization. It’s their organization. It’s their effort. It’s their award. Congratulations and thank you to all of our employees for being great people with diverse skills and for your ongoing efforts, to each contribute your best for the best of FMCH. It’s a blessing to be able to work for our region and help each other care for our patients. May we continue the effort and the outcome of being caring servants to our region.” stated Pat Bira, President/CEO of FMCH.

“The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest. And oftentimes, people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits,” explained Doug Claffey, CEO of Workplace Dynamics. “But to be a Top Workplace, organization must meet our strict standards for organizational health.  And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day- the employees.  Time and again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together.  Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a shot at being named a Top Workplace.”
Fort Madison Community Hospital employs 464 employees which includes 21 physicians and 13 allied health providers.
